This was an unusual, rare disorder in a young child who responded to conservative therapy each time. I firmly believe that no provider should be liable for this horrible outcome and case.

No sane doctor (or NP!) could be expected to see this child and jump to the conclusion that they have a presacral teratoma and this extremely rare cancer. There were some flags (not even red flags, slightly pink ones) that they missed.... the possibility of mass on the ultrasound, the fact that it was a repeated issue (but constipation usually is), etc... I'm curious if there are any peds GI docs who will comment about the stricture being 5-7cm deep as opposed to 1-3cm. Seems pretty soft call to me. But then again, juries see dead children and their crying family members and want them to get a big check so its best to settle.
